The Dutch army has been in the southern Afghan province Uruzgan since mid 2006. The initial idea was to focus on reconstruction of the province, and win the "hearts and minds" of the Afghan people. The province turned out to be a hotbed for Taliban support so the mission that started so peacefully, turned into a fighting mission. Political tension on how to continue this mission has been rising in the Netherlands since the first bodybags started coming home.
